THAILAND : NUM CHAI,

THE THAI CHARITY NAMED KIND HEART

Thailand is  a Southeast Asian kingdom, with a population of 60.6 million people, whose majority are living with the daily realities of malnutrition, poor sanitation and hygiene.. The Kind Heart project provides to build education centers in each of its  76 provinces, with schools for children and learning-skills centers for sowing, painting, arts, crafts etc.

The 10.000 NUM CHAI volunteers, mainly community leaders and village representatives, are implementing the following projects to improve the living standard in Thailand and designed to promote self–sufficiency of disadvantaged members of society :

- Schooling of 500,000 children.

- Health clinics ;

- Drug Prevention Programs ;

- Clean water sources ;

- Stimulation of economic life in rural areas ;

- Tree planting programs and preservation of the wildlife;

- Providing food, to eliminate malnutrition.

The Thai Government provides free education for children up to the age of 14 years old but opportunities for those who wish to continue their education are almost impossible without help, due to financial constraints.

Num Chai thus develops  its centers on the ground that education Is the seed planted in children and their key to long term success, as follows :

1. Educational Programmers

We will sponsor children's education from elementary level through to vocational training and university studies, promoting self-sufficiency. .

2. Child Development Centers

These Centers are  located in remote areas all around the country. They  assist children from disadvantaged families, providing general welfare and a daily lunch with high nutritional value such as milk, fruit and Soya bean, to eliminate malnutrition.

3. Development for village families

The cycle of poverty can be ended with assistance promoting self-reliance. We assist families to develop many types of productive business ventures such as fertilizers, animal feed, livestock and agriculture for this purpose.

4. Health, Hygiene and Community Programmers

We  assist villagers to construct toilets and water jars, providing vaccination against disease and training people in nutrition and hygiene. Community programmers include housing projects and the construction of public amenities such as electricity generating facilities, water supply facilities, health clinics and multi-purpose community buildings such as libraries, playground and community centers.

Num Chai estimates that  amount required to complete the humanitarian project will turn around US$154,000,000 (85,000,000 Baht X 76 provinces). It is bound to provide employment to the residents during the construction and development stages.
